Bring the heart of your home back to life with a Copperwheat kitchen refurbishment

If the last few years have taught us one thing, it’s to enjoy everything we have. Make the most of what is directly around us. And cherish our loved ones. This is why we are aware that your kitchen – the heart of your home – is more important than ever. It should no longer be the place the youngsters fleetingly pass through on their way to school, grab an apple or a slice of toast, then disappear. Or the place where you stand just long enough for the kettle to boil or the coffee to percolate.

A well-planned and completed kitchen refurbishment will bring your family back together in the one room you will be happy to spend time together. Lazy Sunday mornings. Weeknights gathered around the table. A place where you can proudly entertain guests in style and comfort. And where family meal preparation and cooking become a favourite pastime once again.

So, if you have any ideas now as to how to make the best use of your kitchen area, we can probably make that dream a reality. But if you are struggling for inspiration, here are some pointers which might make the process a little easier for you.

How to start planning your kitchen refurbishment

With so much choice available, so many styles and designs, colours, and finishes, and kitchen gadgets galore, it is easy to feel overwhelmed when it comes to planning your kitchen refurbishment.

Do you want to keep to the existing room layout? Do you need more space and might want to extend it? Will opening up into another room create the right feel and meet your needs? Are you wanting to start completely from scratch and just don’t have the vision as yet?

Over the years we have been creating idyllic home conversions and refurbishments for our customers, we have seen everything!

From the smallest of galley kitchens, with little storage space, turned into open plan, bright and stylish family areas. The addition of bi-folding doors where once only a slither of daylight was allowed into the kitchen, bringing the outside in, and taking the inside out to the patio area. And single storey extensions encompassing a brand-new kitchen refurbishment and utility area which was the talk of the town.

Starting with the knowledge and experience our team delivers with every job, we create areas that are functional. Where everything you want in your kitchen has its own place. We take the time to talk through your ideas with you. To fully appreciate and understand what you want and need in your kitchen. And to envisage the true purpose of the heart of your home.

Getting the right layout to suit your style and family requirements is one thing we know how to do in abundance. And promise to always deliver.

Make sure your kitchen refurbishment is a practical Solution

Home Remodels - Sunbury-on-Thames Extensions. kitchen refurbishmentWe know that what makes you love your kitchen and want to spend time there is not only the look but how practical it is. And the pandemic has shown us that the kitchen, can be an ideal ‘hub’ for home learning, home working, entertainment, and leisure time, in addition to its core function for cooking and food preparation.

The main refurbishments, extensions, and kitchen refurbishment requests we receive want to incorporate additional storage, greater workspace, hidden appliances, a luxury feel and all with clean lines and finishes. Whether this be in the form of traditional cosy country-style kitchens or more sleek and spacious modern designs.

And of course, we want you to enjoy being in your kitchen, not simply consider it the room where once or twice a day the family just meets to eat.

Heating

Heating is one thing many forget when it comes to drawing out plans. Underfloor heating is a great option as it frees up wall space and can be easy to operate, especially if incorporated into your existing smart home technology. Heating vents and fans fitted under the lower cupboards. Or vertical radiators rather than the traditional style which again takes up what could be better utilised areas. We can work around any vision you have, or work with you to create the perfect plan.

Plumbing

Plumbing – although you may want integrated or hidden washing appliances, if you are hoping for your dishwasher and washing machine to be in the kitchen, it is advisable to locate them close to the sink, just to keep the plumbing and connections as simple as possible. Alternatively, of course, we have also planned extensions and renovations to include a utility room off the kitchen – would this be an ideal solution for you? Keeping the muddy boots and paws separate from the kitchen floor!

Lighting

Lighting – not just the daylight entering the kitchen, but also creating ambiance for cosy winter evenings. Or rainy days when a little artificial light will make all the difference. Spotlights over the cooking and preparation areas. Or a feature light fitting above the dining table. Again, using the lower cupboard plinths might be an option. All of which we can discuss with you in detail to really bring your ideas to life.

Storage

Storage – you might be surprised at where we can fit additional storage! Slimline larder units, ‘magic corners’ packed neatly into otherwise awkward storage cupboards. Pull-out baskets and drawers lower down rather than cupboard space are a perfect solution if you struggle with mobility or simply want the luxury of easy access.

How to get the best from your kitchen refurbishment

The biggest challenge when imagining your kitchen refurbishment is knowing what to choose in terms of units, work surfaces, furnishings, and colours.

This really does come down to personal choice. But with the vast variety of options available, we can literally take your plans and bring your dream kitchen to life.

It is worth remembering though as a simple rule of thumb that light, reflective surfaces can make even the smallest of kitchens look much larger. And if you have the luxury of plenty of space, you can tone down your shades to create warmth or accented areas. Dark base units and lighter wall cupboards for instance.

Glazed doors, allowing in natural light or adding windows or a roof lantern to an extension will enable light to flood in and create an impression of more space.

Using a professional company, such as Copperwheat Conversions, to help with your design and installation really is the cherry on the cake. But like I said, we have seen it all, and we know which elements need extra focus, and which areas we really can get the best for you and your home.

What to expect during your kitchen refurbishment

We will always let you know well in advance just what to expect. Obviously, the easiest thing for you would be to stay elsewhere. But we also appreciate this is not always possible.

So, being flexible and adaptable is key. You will become a lover of all things microwaveable and toasted, and at least one take away will undoubtedly be called for!

Pack away the kitchen methodically (or bring someone in to help you). There are items you will be able to use, and others that can simply wait until your new kitchen is in situ and ready to be fully utilised once more.

Smaller Items

Items you are likely to need: – kettle, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, small amount of cutlery and crockery, small fridge. Mugs, tea, coffee, sugar, pet food and bowls, tin opener, cling film or other suitable food coverings for items you would usually put away or in the fridge straight away. Tea towels. Bin.

Try to keep at least one room free of anything to do with the kitchen refurbishment, so that you have somewhere to escape to!

Clear up straight away after cooking and eating. And be ready to wash dishes in any sink available. Some use the cloakroom, bathroom, and others give up being inside altogether and go for a washing-up bowl and hosepipe on the patio.

Dust – we pride ourselves in the way we carry out every job, and receive amazing recommendations specifically mentioning our cleanliness and consideration of our customers’ homes. But one thing we simply cannot avoid is dust. It is inevitable I am afraid. And it can get everywhere (even places you least expect).
